There is not one person on this planet who doesn’t dream of having flawless skin. The kind of skin that is even-toned, has a few age lines as possible and is absolutely glowing (with or without cosmetics)!
Every day, you can turn on your television or surf the internet to see all sorts of commercial products that try and get you to invest in them. Some are good. Some…not so good. But if your budget is tight—or you simply want to find a regimen that consists of using as few chemicals as possible—we’ve got the perfect solution.
Below, we’ve provided you with a list of eight ways that you can achieve the kind of healthy skin that you’re after thanks to things that are already in your kitchen (or you can find at a local health store like the Vitamin Shoppe or Walmart).
Try them out. We guarantee that within a couple of weeks, you’ll have glowing, healthy and unbelievably beautiful skin!
Wash with Sulfur Soap
It’s not something you hear about every day, but if you’re not allergic to sulfur, it’s a product that’s a beauty lifesaver! If you struggle with acne, eczema or even dandruff on your scalp (because your scalp is skin too), sulfur soap can clear up these issues while also evening out your skin tone. It works so well thanks to the anti-fungal, antimicrobial, and antibacterial properties that are in it. Sure, it doesn’t smell the best (kind of like rotten eggs), but if you rinse really well and wait a couple of minutes, the scent will pass.
Exfoliate with Brown Sugar
We shed thousands and thousands of dead skin cells every day (which is why it’s important to change your bedsheets once a week). That’s why it’s necessary to exfoliate your skin. If you’ve got some brown sugar, mix it with a little olive (or coconut) oil and rub it onto your damp skin. It will gently remove dead skin cells. Plus, brown sugar is a humectant. That means it has the ability to pull moisture from the air to keep your skin soft, supple and smooth.
Use Almond Oil
After washing your face, it’s important to moisturize it with something that will keep your skin looking dewy and fresh without clogging your pores. One of our favorite oils for this is almond oil. It’s a mild hypoallergenic oil (gentle enough for even a baby’s skin) that’s high in Vitamin A and contains loads of antioxidants. It’s great for applying under your makeup in the morning and sealing your skin at night.
Apply Ghee Butter on Your Lips
Ghee butter is one of the best-kept secrets around! It’s unclarified butter that, when used in moderation, is low in fat, aids in digestion and can give your immune system a real boost! If you have dairy allergies, it’s also the kind of butter that you can consume without worrying about any side effects. Externally, it helps to heal burns and rashes, give you skin as smooth as silk and it’s a powerful lip exfoliant. If you apply a little to your lips at night, you’ll notice that they’ll turn into a nice even pink color over time.
Take a Collagen Supplement
The reason why many of us see fine lines and wrinkles sooner than we’d like is because our bodies produce less collagen as we age. One way to combat this is to take a collagen supplement. Local health stores sell them in capsule or powder form. You can also eat more foods that contain collagen. Some of our favorites include berries, carrots, turkey, eggs and white tea.
Speaking of foods, we are what we eat. Another way to achieve the kind of skin that you want is to get plenty of nutrients from the types of foods that are proven to provide you with healthy skin. Some of those include tomatoes (they have lycopene in them which is a natural form of collagen); sweet potatoes (not only are they are “perfect food” but all orange foods are high in C and great for your skin); turmeric (it’s an anti-inflammatory seasoning); salmon (the omega-3 in it will fight wrinkle formation) and papaya (it has chymopapain to relieve inflammation and papain to help remove blemishes).
Drink LOTS of Water
There’s no way we could do an article like this and not mention how important it is to drink water! In fact, a lot of people struggle with achieving the kind of skin they desire simply because they are dehydrated; this is why you should have no less than 8-10 glasses a day. If you need to detox, add some lemons or cucumber slices to it. If you hate the taste of it (because water is kind of on the boring side), make some infused water with your favorite friends and/or veggies or get some sparkling water and add a dash of juice to it. This time alone can totally change the appearance of your skin—for the better!
